Phenix Ballard (aka: Bellor) (1848-1942)
Born in Mt. Clemens, Mich., last Bay County Civil War veteran to die.

By Jim Petrimoulx, added April, 2014.

Ever since November 1939 with the death of Martin Heath, Thomas Webster has been portrayed as the last Bay County Civil War veteran. A local history book published this year still wrongly reports that fact. Phenix (Bellor) Ballard lived in Bay County for over 65 years and died in Linwood nearly one and a half years after Thomas Webster. He was the son of Thomas & Elizabeth Dubay Ballard, one of 11 children. Phenix had two brothers Thomas Jr. and Alphonse who served in the same regiment as Phenix. All three are buried at St Anne Cemetery in Linwood. I am attaching more information on him
