Senator from the Twenty-fifth District (Arenac and Bay Counties), 1887-8. Was born in Caithness-shire, Scotland, in 1836, and came to Michigan in 1861. By occupation he was a builder. He was a member of the City Council. He was elected to the Senate of 1887-8 on the Greenback and Republican ticket by a vote of 4,615 to 3,518 for H. M. Wright, Democrat, and 154 for Brent Harding, Prohibitionist.

Report of Progress in the Geological Resurvey of Cripple Creek - 1904
On Big Run, which is in the northwest corn of Elders Ridge quadrangle and heads near Shay, the Upper Freeport has been opened in a number of places on the Daniel Campbell and Samuel McClune farms. Thousands of bushels of coal have been taken out, but the industry was given up about 1893 on account of trouble with miners and because gas was discovered in the neighborhood about that time.
