On Big Run, which is in the northwest corn of Elders Ridge quadrangle and heads near Shay, the Upper Freeport has been opened in a number of places on the Daniel Campbell and Samuel McClune farms. Thousands of bushels of coal have been taken out, but the industry was given up about 1893 on account of trouble with miners and because gas was discovered in the neighborhood about that time.
