After an illness of one month, George D. Seaman laid down the burdens of life at 4:15 p.m. yesterday and passed onto the world beyond. Mr. Seaman was 72 years of age. For the past 26 years he had been sexton of Eickmeyer cemetery. He was known throughout the city and county and his death will be sincerely regretted by his many friends.
The funeral will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the late residence, west side of Tuscola road south of Columbus avenue.
Note: Eickmeyer cemetery is Green Ridge cemetery today.
George was born in Ottoville, Cattaraugus, N.Y. on Feb. 16, 1827 to Thomas Seaman and Mary Ann Carter. George was married to Mary Kalar and they had two children, a son named Comfort and a daughter Matilda. (Source: Find-A-Grave)
In biography of Charles C. Cuthbert, is mentioned, "he worked in the cemteries for C.D. Fisher and George D. Seaman."
The family of Thomas and Mary Seaman appear to be as follows:
Marietta (Archer) 1828-1900
William Lewis 1832-1891
Eliza Jane (Leader) 1834-1902
Sarah Ann (Erb) 1839-1920
Adelia Marie (Erb) 1842-1901

The family continued around the west end of Lake Ontario and settled near the
village of Woodstock, Oxford County.
In 1861 there was a provincial census, plus a special Agricultural census. In both
cases, George Seamans is shown as living on farmland adjacent to his parents.
He is now age 34 and married. The number of his children in 1861 is not known.
Ten years later, in 1871, the Oxford County political census shows him with
wife Mary, daughter Matilda, and a son named George. (Ms. Robison says that
George had 4 children.)
Mary seems to have died in Ontario in the year 1871 or 1872. I do not know
if there is a death record for her.
On September 8, 1873 - in Wyandotte, Michigan, George D. Seaman
married Ann Jane Compion who, unlike George, was born in Canada. They
settled in Bay City.
