Oak Ridge Cemetery is Bay City's oldest cemetery. It was initially created as a mill burial site by the Drake brothers. After erecting their mill around 1852, they set aside 20 acreas for a cemetery. The first burial was a mill worker. In 1866 Bangor Township bought the cemetery from the brothers. It then became a part of West Bay City. The first recorded burial under the new arrangement was George Harrison on January 1, 1898. He was buried in south section #443, a plat owned Jermey Smart of Bay City. The cemetery is owned by Bay City. |
